Crisper Label Packaging with Thermal Transfer Printer Ribbons

Thermal transfer ribbons are heated to print/apply a barcode onto a label versus direct thermal printing, which uses heat to directly image a coated material. Using a quality thermal transfer printer ribbon and premium ink results in a crisper barcode label on packaging. This means a clearer, more readable scan every time, thus fewer fines and headaches!

Wax vs. Resin Thermal Transfer Ribbon: What’s the Difference?

Depending on what you are printing, you may want to consider the differences between wax versus resin thermal transfer ribbon. Since thermal transfer ribbons are heated to apply a barcode between the printer head and the label, they are made up of a polyester film that is coated with either wax or resin, or both, to aid in the printing process.

Wax Thermal Transfer Ribbon

Wax ribbons are not as ideal for storage as they need to be kept away from other chemicals and stored in a dry environment. They are primarily used for printing on paper labels.

Wax-Resin Thermal Transfer Ribbon

Wax-resin ribbons are used to create a fine image on coated paper labels or smooth paper. More durable than wax, they are ideal for storing but must be kept away from water.

Pure Resin Thermal Transfer Ribbon

Pure resin thermal transfer ribbons are used to print on plastic labels that are usually made from polyester and vinyl. Made to dissolve into the service of plastic, the pure resin is extremely durable.
